My only problem with this interview is that it wasn’t long enough. The part when you guys talked about how men view success as having a family, good job and a home was interesting. Great stuff Ana I like how you understand the problems facing men these days. Men are becoming soft by the day and that’s not good for no one. Salute 🫡 to you Ana for doing what you will be doing in the next couple of months. Really shows how much of a good heart you have.
"His raw honesty and willingness to broach uncomfortable topics is what convinced me to become a paid subscriber to his page."
He is neither honest (he pretends men can be women) nor is he willing to broach uncomfortable topics (he steadfastly refuses to engage with the idea that men can't be women). I used to like him, but his hypocrisy and intellectual cowardice on this subject turned me and many others off.
If the Democratic Party wants to find an issue to galvanize people it has been right under everyone’s noses for decades. The health care crisis is the elephant in the room that rarely gets mentioned. Pushing national health care along with strengthening SS and labor unions are real solutions to a myriad of issues we all face. Selling this might be tough considering your average working American’s love and worship of corporate CEOs. The time might be right, though. Bernie will not be in politics much longer but that didn’t stop 35,000 people from showing up for his rally in Denver in a non-election year.
I understand your point that hearing one side harp on a particular topic can be exasperating and drive some to the opposite view. Due to right winger’s incessant histrionics about immigration, I went from not thinking about the issue at all to only half joking that we should use taxpayer money to give a free gun to every undocumented immigrant in the country. That way I won’t have to listen to any more bitching and complaining about immigrants and we can start talking about national health care. To be sure I’m also sick of the trans thing. I don’t know who started it but I’m at the point where I’m thinking of changing my gender just to piss people off.
To your point about Trump’s economic policies being “incoherent”, that is 100 percent true. Incoherence has been a hallmark of Trump’s entire political career. Every time he opens his mouth he makes Joe Biden sound sharp as a tack. There are two things I have in common with Donald Trump. Neither one of us likes free trade very much and neither one of us has a fucking clue what to do about it. I believe there should be a study done on the effect of heavy, long term amphetamine use on one’s decision making capabilities. It is common knowledge that George W. used cocaine and alcohol while in office. It’s a wonder more people weren’t killed.
On a light note, I couldn’t help but think that if you had been interviewing Ben Shapiro and used the word, “incoherent” he would have popped a nut as he so hilariously did with Andrew Neil on the BBC a few years ago. LOL.
Great, great interview! It’s always interesting to hear a well thought out opinion on why someone believes in something. It can be hard to hear if they don’t share your views, but it’s incredibly helpful to ground your beliefs when challenged. Thank you Ana, wish the best for you and your family in everything. Take care!
A very interesting interview. I had a 40k foot view of what his views were. After listening I doubt I would agree with him on much of anything, but he can at least state an opinion. This is one of the reasons I subscribe. Thank you.
Freddie is way off the mark for a lot of people's experience being atypical mentally. Romanticized mental illness? As someone with ADHD, this is not a way to find community. This is not a way to be quirky. It is the way my brain is.
Part of the reason there is pushback on questioning is how difficult it is to get a diagnosis. There are also significant burdens to growing up where people insist you be like them when you functionally aren't but sort of make it work at great pain to yourself. There are also many traits that come along with ADHD (example: sensory sensitivity) that people overlook. I can hear the conversations of most of the room, I can smell what you ate for breakfast, the light reflecting off your glass is very intense and distracting, etc. I grew up thinking everyone just dealt with it and I was strange for wanting earplugs to enjoy a party (not to mention I had to learn that earplugs made parties enjoyable).
How cruel would it be dismiss someone's physical differences. Say someone has extra long arms but very small legs. Congratulations! You are a great swimmer but won't be winning any marathons. Now society demands you sprint up the stairs repeatedly and if you can't it is because you are too lazy.
I now work in a quiet environment and one where my sensory sensitivity, substantial energy, and endless curiosity is a huge asset. Looking back, my divergences were not only liabilities but also immense assets in specific circumstances. But I was taught that because I couldn't do something a certain way or in a certain environment that I was lazy, stupid, and/or easily distracted. I could have avoided an enormous amount of suffering had I known earlier. Now someone comes along and says: this is something you are claiming to be cool, quirky, for attention, etc. The dismissal is....not great
I am also disturbed that Freddie recognizes these wards are abusive yet insists that it would be appropriate to lock someone inside one. (Including, apparently, people who had not committed a crime. Habeas corpus? meh.)
I am sorry that you have had these horribly unfair and cruel experiences. Having been finally diagnosed with ADHD about a year ago at 47, I feel a lot of your pain and shame. That said, some people fake mental illnesses and neurodiversity for various reasons: to have sympathy, an in-group, or an excuse. I believe Freddie was referring to these people, not those who legitimately have mental illnesses and/or neurodiversity. In terms of holding people with dangerously severe mental illnesses behind locked doors, well, people need to be locked up if they cannot function in society without being a danger to themselves or others.
Congratulations, anyone who opposes this administration is suffering a dangerously severe mental illness and should be held behind bars. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome. You see? Some people are absolutely eager to give authoritarians a ready made tyranny toolbox.
People have a right to due process if they will be locked behind bars. The only reason to lock someone up is as punishment for a crime. Otherwise the psychiatric system will be abused.
Look into history, look at modern day Russia, and you will see a very dark pattern of disappearing dissenters as mentally ill "people [who] need to be locked up if they cannot function in society".
When (not if) this happens, don't say you weren't warned.
(edit: look up "mentally ill" Martha Mitchell. You all are building the future you deserve.)
Could you kindly engage in a counter argument to defend your position? You believe that habeus corpus should be suspended. Please defend that position.
I would hope ad hominems were beneath Unaligned but alas here we are.
Gio, thank you! I think most people, regardless of political ideology, are willing to listen to anyone's point of view if they feel respected. That makes all the difference. And as much as some hate me for saying this: I respect everyone and will try to understand their point of view. I don't have to agree. But I refuse to immediately assume people are bad or evil over political disagreements. Sure, there are few exceptions. For instance, I don't know if I can stomach someone who makes a point to dehumanize people. But outside of that, I think meeting others with grace is how people let their guard down and open their minds. I really really want to do whatever little I can to bring people together.

Minute 36.52, I thought he was gonna start singing School House Rock: I'm Just a Bill!
LOL!

Think! Habeas corpus exists for a reason.

There's no need to be rude.

So many great topics, I agree that this needed to be longer (or just have Freddie back soon).
