Great article and BRAVO to Pedro. While I disagree with him and you about how President Trump is currently doing i definitely support and appreciate any one reviewing the facts and making an informed decision. I despise the sheeple who are in lock step in their groupthink whether the are left/progressive or right/conservative. Learn, analyze, make your decision instead of blindly following.

The types of civil conversations about politics which you and Pedro want were pretty commonplace most of the time I’ve been around until the last twenty years or so. At some point two aspects of American cultural and political thought diverged to the extent that extremism is now evident.

Some of the things you mentioned in your article above about mainstream media during the campaign were lost on me for a long time. I ditched my cable a couple of decades ago and so I have never watched or payed attention to either MSNBC or Fox News. This time last year I had never heard of Morning Joe and I was getting the majority of my political news coverage from Young Turks. So when I kept hearing about people being pissed because the media were lying to them I didn’t know what they were talking about. I’ve branched out to other commentators as well. From my unscientific observation (who believes scientists anyway?) it appears to me that there a lot more extremists on right wing media than left. I honestly can’t think of a left wing equivalent to Benny Johnson. But then I would say that wouldn’t I. 😁

Hope you’re doing ok. I have also experienced some serious family issues concurrently with everything else happening right now. It is not fun.

I can name some left wing version, Brian. But I won’t do that since I really don’t want to get mired in the muck. I want to move forward and change this terrible paradigm we’re stuck in.

I really enjoyed this conversation! Having gone through a sort of evolution over approximately the last two years, I am coming out the other side (I hope) a better person. Politics was barely on my radar until almost two years ago when the J6 Committee hearings were televised, as I always just kinda thought of myself as someone on the Left. (Full disclosure: that's when I started watching MSNBC up until they let Mehdi go) It's almost like I went through the five stages of grief to get where I'm going now and realize how ignorant I was and still am. It just comes down to compassion and not seeing people through the lens of my perception of their politics and values. I cried (big shock, I know) when you were discussing how some will show silent support behind closed doors, so to speak, but won't stand up for you publicly. I know that pain and am sorry you have to deal with that. Times in my life when I've dealt with abuse and assaults, there were always people who would say they believed and supported me but couldn't say anything to anyone else, usually out of fear. While that may have made me feel somewhat better, it also would make me feel worse. Anyway, I'm so glad I found you, Ana, and I will always stand up for you. I hope you and yours are doing well! 🕊️♥️🤲

Hey Ana. I am a fan from Turkey. I feel like I always trusted your values and the way you approach news stories. Just wanted to say that.

I am a huge bookworm and I am wondering about what political books youre reading these days. Let me know! Much love.

I just finished reading Fight, the book about the last election. I’ve just started reading Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. Honestly, the first validated much of my current disgust with Democrats. The second is ok. old ideas are making a comeback. But some old ideas are good. Others not so much.

I'll say it publicly instead of a DM: I love what you're doing, your openness to people of all political persuasions so long as they engage in good faith, your willingness to reject dogma and voice heresies, and how you take accountability for things you've done in the past that you see now were harmful. We are all wrong about some things, we just don't know which. If only more people admitted that this were true. (PS. Check out the Center for Working-Class Politics and the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative .... we're building common ground based on the material concerns of working and middle class people).
