Part of what's kept me quiet, historically, has been the general awareness that the Democrats (like Republicans) are a coalition party scrapped together from disparate groups. I probably agree more with Republicans on guns and gender medicine (though I think they go too far).
But I'll happily give up on that stuff in exchange for universal healthcare, net neutrality, legal abortion, pro-family economic policy, the PRO Act, and an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that doesn't involve wiping out the West Bank and Gaza (or Israel if that were even in the cards).
But what the fuck do these spineless pricks actually do when fascism comes knocking? Fundraise I guess.
Being a pragmatic person with liberal social values, I have been a very reliable Democratic voter, as Republicans have proven to be generally insane and destructive. Unfortunately, Democrats are proving themselves useless, transitioning from door stops to doormats. They had all this energy during the first Trump administration, and now it's like they did no planning after 4 years of Biden. Republicans schemed for decades to wreck reproductive rights, succeed, and the liberal-Dem response from the NGOs and the party has been to tie abortion rights (popular!) to gender medicine for kids (unpopular!) and keep fundraising like nothing changed.
They offer nothing of substance and then act surprised that no one votes for it.
I am really proud of you for always being truthful and honest. And all the haters that attack you they are low IQ people. Don’t even pay attention or think about them.
I'm sympathetic to this critique but also flummoxed about what Dems' strategy should be at this point. Given that GOP would like nothing more than to shut down the govt, would Dems' threatening to do that have actually given them any leverage?
For one, they shouldn't pretend they intend to fight the GOP when they really have no intention to do so. Secondly, the last election was evidence that simply running on "TRUMP BAD" isn't working. They have to run ON something. But the party has no identity right now. What do they represent? Schumer was giddy at the idea of losing working class voters in 2016 because he was stupidly under the impression that the party could win over "moderate" Republicans. We all saw how that turned out. Working class people are getting crushed right now. Less maximalist culture war takes and more substantive policy proposals to improve Americans' material conditions is the only way this party can stage a comeback. And Dems need well spoken leaders who can use the bully pulpit daily to draw attention to the unpopular things this administration is doing. Right now the only think Dems are known for is hating Trump.
I want to see the people of this country thrive. I want it so badly. Affordable housing, quality education and a path for a bright future! Trump paid lip service to some of those policy matters...but obviously what we've seen so far isn't what he promised.
When you're right, you're right! It's refreshing to see rusted-on democrat supporters finally facing the truth, and we can only hope the rebellion is strong enough to create major changes within the party. In the meantime, enjoy your hard-earned victory lap.
The party spent every day since Jan 20 arguing that every government expenditure is absolutely essential, then got angry when the party didn't shut down the government
I’m a bit surprised about the intensity of anger among Democratic voters also. We are usually so polite!
It looks like it has to get this bad before voters in general will start to shout. This is just the first spark. The optimist part of me thinks that this is the start of a new movement that will transform the Democratic Party and, ultimately, make the US a great place to live where one does not have to feel like they are constantly being threatened.
We should start a new, turbocharged version of Justice Democrats and primary every corporate shill in congress. No more infighting or “purity tests”. As my union always says, stay strong, stay united and we will prevail.
For me it’s interesting to see the Ds in a position the Rs have been for years. It usually has been the populist side of the Rs that were always used because after all “where else are you going to go”. It will be interesting to see if the R coalition will hold or whether it fractures because it’s the personality of Trump that holds everything together. I appreciate Ana because I feel that she is truly looking for solutions that aren’t based solely on the color of the jersey you happen to be wearing. That group has historically been a small one. Maybe things are starting to look up.
I only started to follow politics a little bit with the airing of the J6 Committee hearings. Shortly after 10/7, I became more engaged. I've always been super Left, and that hasn't changed. Sadly (but I feel it's always better to know), in a slow and then all-at-once way, I've come to realize just how fucking corrupt, pathetic, and disingenuous the Democrats, by and large, are.
Yes. More importantly, I'm sick of getting attacked viciously for saying common sense things. And then when Democrats suffer major losses for the very reasons I had been warning about, do all these people come back and apologize? No of course not. They just make more videos attacking me as a "turncoat." It's pathetic. The Democratic base enabled what we're seeing in the party right now. Rather than treating our politicians as if they're special little angels that WE the people are supposed to serve, it's about time we remember that THEY signed up to be public servants.

I hope you're right, I mean about the "finally realize" part.

It's a Lent thing. Head up, eyes forward, heart full.
