I’m a new subscriber to Unaligned, and what drew me to your Substack was your story of how you “transformed” from a diehard lefty Democrat to a more free thinking independent. I’ve had a similar journey the past 10 years, just from the opposite side of the political spectrum. Much of that was fueled by the rise of Trumpism in America, admittedly. And maybe the wisdom that just comes with getting older, as well…
Your vocal support and impassioned advocacy for the Palestinian people on TYT, despite the hate you get for it, is also a testament to your character. Stay strong on that. You’re on the right side of history. But, you know that.
This was a great podcast, Ana, and I look forward to many more to come. Thank you for the great content! All the best!
Awesome conversation. Can't wait to pick up the book. I love what you have been doing with Unaligned and now Her Take. I'm a far lefty but I gotta say you've been so brave and so inspirational in choosing to go against the grain. I hope your project expands beyond your wildest dreams. The world needs it.
Sometimes I need to back away from a story or issue in order to gain more perspective. I stayed off looking at the Kyle Rittenhouse case all this time but decided to examine the whole thing recently. Prior to this I had assumed he was a trigger happy little punk playing soldiers. I carefully looked at whatever information I could find and concluded that Rittenhouse acted in self defense in all three shootings. It radically changed my perspective on the case which is so full of cultural dog whistles that it is hard to see the forrest for the trees. Ironically, I found the actual video of the shootings to be of little help in forming an opinion. I’m trying to say that with an open attitude and the heat turned down, rational thinking can prevail.
Not that it matters but when I was majoring in PoliSci 35 years ago the two classes I took that really stood out for me was Voting Behavior and Representation and Redistricting. That was so long ago I’m going back and refreshing and updating myself on political theory as much as possible because we have too much going on politically and I need to try to keep up.

Very informative podcast Ana. The background picture on the wall is nice by the way. Whoever painted that wall did a great job! Was that you?

How great it would be if this could be implemented on a large scale in neighborhoods and towns nationwide!
