Meet the Woman Who Fostered My Political Awakening and Unaligned Journey
A conversation with Suzin Green, who my close friend introduced me to weeks before he died.
Michael Brooks, one of my close friends, died suddenly in the summer of 2020. He worked in media, first as the co-host of a left-wing YouTube show and later as the host of his own program called the “The Michael Brooks Show.”
It would take a few weeks to learn that he died as a result of a blood clot in his brain. Losing Michael was by far the biggest loss I had experienced in my life up to that point, and I’m not even sure I’ve fully recovered from it. No one could make me laugh at the absurdities in political news or the public figures who report them quite like Michael could. He was brilliant.
Mere weeks before he died on July 5th, Michael asked if I would be willing to work with a therapist and meditation guide that had a huge influence on him. “I want to throw out that I work really closely with this coach Suzin Green,” Michael texted me. “She is pretty incredible and is keeping me sane. If you ever want to do a session with her, first one is on me.”
In all honesty, I actually didn’t think working with Suzin would benefit me. I had tried meditation before and hated it. I thought it was hippy dippy bullshit. But I trusted Michael and respected him so deeply that I enthusiastically said yes anyway.
I’m so glad I did.
